Famous for its mountain gorilla populations, Uganda is much more. Uganda is the source of the Nile, it is the Karamojong country and 40 other ethnic groups with their respective cultures, it is Lake Victoria, it is the Mountains of the Moon, it is the beginning of the Congo jungle. Uganda are its elephants, buffaloes, lions, kobos, leopards and the entire pleiad of famous African animals, to which is added an incredible diversity of primates: in addition to its famous gorillas, Uganda has important populations of chimpanzees and 22 other non-human primates. Uganda's 241,000 km2 (slightly less than the United Kingdom, and 81st in the world) includes 360 mammals (15th in the world), 1015 bird species (16), 165 reptiles (40), 52 amphibians (48). In addition, Uganda has between 20 and 24 primates according to different authors, from five different families, including the world's largest mountain gorilla population and healthy chimpanzee populations. All protected in 60 wilderness areas, 10 of which are national parks.
